The survey covered three distinct respondent groups: Industry, AI vendors, and regulators. Industry refers to financial institutions, comprising both fintechs (203) and traditional financial institutions (149). AI vendors refers to technology companies providing AI products and services to the financial sector, including both specialist financial services AI providers and general-purpose AI platforms (146). Regulators refers to financial regulatory and supervisory authorities, including central banks, prudential regulators, securities market regulators, insurance regulators, AML/CFT regulators, consumer protection regulators, and payments system regulators (130).

Citation formats

As of early 2026, OpenAI was the dominant foundational model provider in the financial services sector, used by 69 percent of surveyed financial institutions and other industry participants. Google followed at 47 percent, with Anthropic third at 32 percent. Meta and Microsoft occupied the mid-tier, while DeepSeek and Perplexity had gained a foothold despite being newer entrants. Databricks and Mistral each reached eight percent. As respondents could select multiple providers, the figures reflect the tendency of financial services firms to draw on more than one foundational model simultaneously.
