In 2025, consumer adoption of AI emerged as a material risk to bank profitability. If banks did not adapt to customers’ growing use of AI in financial decision-making, global profit pools were projected to contract by an average of **** percent, with the largest losses expected in Europe and North America. The exposure was most acute in credit card lending and consumer deposits, where profit pools were expected to decline by as much as ** percent and ** percent, respectively. Although impacts were more muted in products such as mortgages and wealth management, few banking lines appeared insulated from erosion.Â
