Sub-sector figures are based on separate respondent pools: payments, wallets and payment systems (n=323), non-bank retail credit and lending (n=319), commercial and wholesale banking (n=328), and retail banking (n=324). The larger sub-sector bases reflect the fact that respondents could identify with multiple sub-sectors.

As of early 2026, views on the expected job impact of AI in financial services by 2030 were divided, with no single outcome commanding a clear majority. Across the industry overall, ** percent of respondents anticipated significant reskilling and job transformation without large net job losses, while ** percent expected a net increase in roles and ** percent projected a net reduction. A further ** percent felt it was too early to estimate. At the sub-sector level, commercial and wholesale banking was the most optimistic, with ** percent expecting a net increase in roles. The payments sector was the most pessimistic, with ** percent projecting a net reduction. Reskilling and transformation was a consistent theme across all sub-sectors, suggesting broad agreement that workforce adaptation will be necessary even where views on net job impact diverge.
