AI impact on profitability in financial services worldwide 2026, by characteristics
As of early 2026, fintechs were the most likely group in financial services to report AI-driven profitability gains, with ** percent recording a positive impact compared with ** percent of traditional financial institutions. Firms spending over 100,000 U.S. dollars on AI annually reported gains at ** percent, versus ** percent among lower-spending firms. Those using in-house or fine-tuned AI models outperformed firms relying on off-the-shelf solutions (** percent versus ** percent), suggesting that greater control over AI development is associated with stronger financial returns. Organisation size showed a modest effect, with large firms slightly ahead of small firms, while advanced economies and emerging markets and developing economies were near parity. Revenue size had minimal impact, with both groups at ** percent.
