The value of total assets of financial institutions worldwide increased gradually between 2002 and 2024, despite a slight drop in 2022. Bank assets attributed for the largest segment of the total assets, with trillion U.S. dollars in 2024. Other financial intermediaries (including money market funds, hedge funds, other investment funds, captive financial institutions and moneylenders, central counterparties, broker-dealers, finance companies, trust companies, and structured finance vehicles) followed, with total assets exceeding trillion U.S. dollars.
