In Brazil, voting in the elections is mandatory for all literate persons aged 18 to 70. Those who do not vote and fail to present a justification will be fined and, after three consecutive rounds not voting, will have their electoral certificate cancelled (a situation that can be eventually changed).
Therefore, voter turnout in the South American country is particularly high. As of August 2022, 83 percent of respondents claimed that they would definitely vote. Merely three percent said that they would definitely not vote.
