The current president of Turkey and leader of the AKP, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, won the second round of the presidential elections held on May 28, 2023, with a margin of less than five percentage points over his rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. With this, Erdoğan becomes the second most powerful man in the country's history, only behind the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
