This chart shows the distribution of votes cast for the different candidates in the first round of the French presidential election on April 23, 2017, by age group. It can be seen that more than a quarter of French voters aged 18 to 34 voted in favor of Marine Le Pen, just ahead of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who received 24.6 percent of the votes in this age group. However, it is especially among voters aged 35 to 49 that the National Front gathered the most votes: more than 27 percent. Conversely, and defying all trends in the rest of the population, seniors aged 65 and over overwhelmingly voted for the Republican candidate François Fillon.
