Riksdagsval - Parliamentary election in Sweden 2018 - Statistics & Facts
Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) elections are held every four years on the second Sunday in September. The last election took place on September 9, 2018 although the results are preliminary and it is not clear yet who has fully won. All residents who are registered or have been registered at some point in Sweden and have reached the age of 18 years have the right to vote. Within the multi-party system, the voters elect the 349 members of the Riksdag. The members in turn elect the Prime Minister of Sweden. Additionally, they are there to implement the program that their party goes to election on. At the last election, there were 7.3 million people entitled to vote in the Swedish parliamentary election. The voter turnout was 85.8 percent.
