Ahead of the Mexican presidential elections, which will take place on June 2, 2024, Claudia Sheinbaum (leader of the MORENA party) is the favorite to lead the country's Executive with a voting intention of approximately 54 percent. Meanwhile, candidate X贸chitl G谩lvez, from the Va por M茅xico party, is in second place with 36 percent.
Women in power in Mexican politics
One of the most notable surprises of the upcoming presidential elections is that, for the first time in Mexico's history, the two favorites to win the elections are women. This fact represents a turning point in the path toward gender equality in the country, since, although Mexican women have made progress on their path toward gender equality, political empowerment remains one of the areas with the least development compared to sectors such as labor market integration.
Insecurity, one of Mexico's main problems
One of the determinants of the elections and one of the political and social issues that most concern Mexicans is insecurity and high levels of violence, which have positioned Mexico as the second most insecure country in Latin America. For this reason, each candidate's strategies to change the course of insecurity will be a determining factor in the final election results.
