Elections worldwide in 2026 - statistics & facts
2026 brings another year of elections that could change the course of world politics. The whole world will be watching the U.S. midterm elections in November, when President Donald J. Trump and his Republican Party will try to defend their majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Further south on the continent, South America’s largest country Brazil will hold both parliamentary and presidential elections in October. There, the incumbent left-wing President Lula da Silva is seeking another term in office.
Elsewhere, the world’s eyes will be on Israel’s parliamentary election in October to see whether the controversial Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his right-wing coalition can remain in office. Meanwhile, in Hungary, long-ruling Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was forced to step down after losing the election. And in Bangladesh, the country’s young population got the opportunity to vote in a democratic election for the first time in 15 years.
