In the first round of the 2026 Presidential election in Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, a well-known criminal defense lawyer and the far-right candidate, took first place with almost 44 percent of the votes. Right behind, Iván Cepeda Castro, the left candidate of the ruling coalition, convinced almost 41 percent of voters. 

Since neither candidate reached the "50 percent plus one" threshold required for an outright victory, a head-to-head runoff election will be held on June 21st.
