*Unlike the previous elections and the following, the 1986 elections were held by proportional representation in one round. The election of deputies by proportional representation had been adopted in 1985, during the first term of François Mitterrand. The results of these elections lead, for the first time in the history of the Fifth Republic, to a cohabitation. Once becoming Prime Minister, Jacques Chirac ended the proportional ballot for the legislative elections.

Voter turnout in legislative elections in France 1958-2024, by round
On the 9th of June 2024, after the results of the European elections and the impressive points score of the National Rally, France's first far-right party, President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the National Assembly and called for legislative elections. After a short electoral campaign, more than ** percent of the French registered voters still went to vote in the first round of the election. This represented an increase of almost 20 points of percentage compared with the previous elections of 2022.
