In the second round of Colombia's 2026 presidential election, Abelardo de la Espriella, a prominent criminal defense lawyer and far-right candidate, claimed victory with nearly **** percent of the vote. Right behind him, Iván Cepeda Castro, the leftist candidate of the ruling coalition, narrowly missed a historic comeback after securing **** percent in the country’s tightest run-off to date.
However, geographically, the vote highlighted a stark regional divide as Cepeda finished first in four of the five largest cities in Colombia, carrying Bogotá, Cali, Barranquilla, and Cartagena. When De la Espriella only secured a strong win in Medellin, with percent of the votes.Â
