Colorado has voted in 38 U.S. presidential elections since it was admitted to the union in 1876, correctly choosing the winning candidate on 26 occasions, giving a success rate of 69 percent. Republican candidates have won Colorado's electoral votes in 22 elections, while Democrats have won 15, and with his campaign in 1892, the People's Party nominee, James B. Weaver, remains the only third party candidate to have ever won in Colorado. Despite voting for the Republican candidate throughout the majority of the 20th century, Colorado has voted for the Democratic nominee in the past four elections, and Joe Biden carried Colorado's popular vote by a 14 percent margin in the 2020 election. 

As of 2024, John Kerry, who contested the 2004 election against George W. Bush, is the only major party nominee who was born in the Centennial State (although his home state at the time was Massachusetts); no U.S. president was ever born in Colorado, or was a resident there when taking office. Since 1876, Colorado's population has grown steadily, and the allocated number of electoral votes has increased from just three or four votes in the late 19th century, to 10 votes 2024.
