The survey covered three distinct respondent groups: industry, vendors, and regulators. Industry refers to financial institutions, comprising both fintechs and traditional financial institutions. AI vendors refers to technology companies providing AI products and services to the financial sector, including both specialist financial services AI providers and general-purpose AI platforms. Regulators refers to financial regulatory and supervisory authorities, including central banks, prudential regulators, securities market regulators, insurance regulators, AML/CFT regulators, consumer protection regulators, and payments system regulators.

Citation formats

As of early 2026, OpenAI was the most widely used foundational model provider across both advanced economies and emerging markets and developing economies, at ** percent and ** percent, respectively. Google ranked second in both groups, though with a notably higher share among EMDE respondents. A similar pattern appeared for Meta and DeepSeek, suggesting stronger uptake of open-weight and cost-accessible models in emerging markets. Anthropic, by contrast, skewed toward advanced economies, consistent with its positioning as a premium enterprise provider.
