Among the countries observed, policy interest rates in May 2026 varied widely. Turkey recorded by far the highest rate, at ** percent, followed by Russia at **** percent and Brazil at **** percent. These were the only three countries with policy rates above ** percent, reflecting persistently high inflation and restrictive monetary conditions. At the lower end of the spectrum, several advanced economies maintained very low interest rates. Sweden recorded a policy rate of *** percent, Denmark *** percent, and Japan stood at **percent, while Switzerland had the lowest rate among all observed countries, at **** percent.
