It all started as an expensive revenge project following the largest ad company’s ousting of its founder. S4 Capital was founded by Sir Martin Sorrell in May 2018, with the ambition to build up a digital-first, content creation-focusing advertising leader. Earlier in 2018, Sorrell was expelled from WPP, the holding he founded, due to allegations that he paid for a sex worker using company funds. By 2024, S4 Capital established itself as a reputable player in the digital ad world – only to be hit by the tech sector’s ongoing marketing cutbacks.
