In the first round of the Colombian presidential elections on Sunday, May 31, 2026, far-right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella secured the lead with 43.74 percent of the vote. He was followed by Iván Cepeda Castro, the leftist candidate representing the ruling coalition. This runoff scenario comes as no surprise, as polls since January have consistently pointed to a head-to-head matchup between the two. De la Espriella enters the final stretch with strong momentum, capturing over 52 percent of voting intentions as of June 10.
