As of early 2026, fintechs led traditional financial institutions in AI adoption across most use cases. The gap was most pronounced in AI-powered customer support (** percent versus ** percent), investment research (** percent versus ** percent), payment monitoring (** percent versus ** percent), and mobile money (** percent versus ** percent). Data visualisation and cybersecurity were the closest to parity, with both institution types reporting nearly identical adoption rates. Trading and portfolio intelligence and professional advisory services were the only areas where traditional financial institutions edged ahead of fintechs, albeit marginally, at ** percent versus ** percent and ** percent versus ** percent respectively.
