The average tenure of the C-suite among Fortune 500 companies in the United States increased continuously between 2022 and 2025, reaching five years (or 60 months) in the latter year. Meanwhile, the average tenure of chief marketing officers (CMOs) from the same sample practically stalled, always remaining below the C-suite average and standing at 4.1 years (or little more than 49 months) in 2025. According to another study, nearly half of U.S. chief executive officers (CEOs) did not know CMOs had the shortest tenure in the C-suite as of 2025.
