RÃkisútvarpið (RÚV) is Iceland's public-service broadcaster, supported by the government with subsidies of *** billion Icelandic króna (2021) and additionally generating advertising revenue. Stripping the broadcaster of the possibility to generate such revenue has been widely discussed in Iceland. During a 2023 survey, ** percent of responding marketing managers stated that they would transfer their current RÚV ad spend to Meta and Google/YouTube if the public broadcaster disappeared from the ad market.
