Figures presented are for intra-EU exports. In theory, as every export within the EU will be an import for another EU member state, export and import figures should balance out. In some cases due to accounting discrepancies, however, the figures may differ between exports and imports.

Citation formats

Trade between the member states of the European Union has grown significantly over the period since 2002. While EU member states trade more than twice as much machinery and transport equipment in 20234than they did in the early 2000s, the growth in intra-EU trade has also been driven by other product categories. Notably, there has been strong growth in the trade of other manufactured goods, chemicals and related products, and food, drinks, and tobacco.
