The food category Americans spend the most money on is confectionery and snacks. The market revenue of confectionery and snacks in the United States is 135 billion U.S. dollars, ahead of meat at 132 billion dollars. However, U.S. consumers eat more dairy products and eggs than any other food category. Almost 125 kilograms are consumed per capita each year, which puts the category well ahead of vegetables which comes to a per capita consumption of 79 kilograms.
