Steel industry emissions worldwide - Statistics & Facts
If the steel industry was a country, it would be a higher emitter than the entire European Union. Generating almost three billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (³Ò³Ù°ä°¿â‚‚) each year, this energy-intensive industry is responsible for around seven percent of global GHG emissions. With demand for steel expected to continue growing in the coming decades, this hard-to-abate industry must now find a way to reduce its emissions intensity while also catering to the world’s increasing urban development and industrialization needs.
