This statistic presents the global female population according to the abortion legislation of each country in 2023. That year, 662 million women of childbearing age lived in a country where access to Voluntary Termination of Pregnancy (abortion) is allowed upon simple request of the pregnant woman, without any justification required. Other countries also take into account the social and economic environment of a woman in the decision to abort or not; however, in these cases, the decision does not rest with the woman but with the medical staff. In Europe, two countries have implemented these restrictions: the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Poland is the only country in Europe to have readopted very restrictive measures regarding abortion.
