According to this 2022 survey, the majority of French people believe that the freedom to have an abortion must be guaranteed. However, 13 percent of respondents thought that abortion should only be allowed under certain circumstances. One in 100 French people was completely against the right to abortion, even in cases where the woman's life is at risk.

The right to voluntary termination of pregnancy (IVG) has been guaranteed by law in France since January 17, 1975.
