State of health in Mexico - Statistics & Facts
Throughout the last decades Mexico has seen marked improvements on health outcomes within its population. While life expectancy at birth stood at around 50 years in 1960, newborns in the country can now expect to live more than 75 years. During that period, mortality rate decreased from 14 deaths per 1,000 inhabitants in 1960 to less than half that value in 2023. These developments can be attributed to improvements in public health and living conditions, including advances in sanitation and nutrition, which have allowed for gains in overall health and a decrease in infectious diseases. However, as the country develops, new health risks arise, with a growing share of the population affected by chronic diseases.
