In 2024, approximately half of U.S. consumers who said they shopped for Halloween before October said they did so because they were looking forward to the fall. About 40 percent said they did it to avoid the stress of shopping at the last minute.

In 2024, consumers in the United States planned to spend a total of nearly 12 billion U.S. dollars on Halloween – over 100 U.S. dollars per household. The most popular Halloween spending categories were costumes, decorations, and candy, all necessary ingredients for the most common Halloween pastime, trick-or-treating.

A popular holiday in the United States

Nearly three-quarters of Americans planned to celebrate Halloween in 2024. Popular celebratory activities include dressing in costumes, hosting or attending Halloween parties, watching scary movies, carving jack-o-lanterns, and participating in trick-or-treating.
