The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is a growing part of the European economy, with increasing numbers of people in the EU working in ICT or ICT-related fields. As a share of the national workforce, Sweden is the country with the most ICT professionals, which is not surprising as the country has specialized in producing high-quality digital services and technologies since at least the 1990s.
As of 2025, Romania and Greece lag far behind other member states, with less than three percent of their national workforces directly employed as ICT professionals. On average, five percent of the EU workforce is employed as ICT professionals.
