Countries and regions across the world look up to the European Union when it comes to the privacy of user data and overall online safety. The main reason for this is the EU’s individual-centered approach to data privacy. The EU has developed and successfully implemented numerous privacy laws and drafts that shaped its highly regulated digital environment. The region is always reacting quickly to industry developments and, in most cases, is the first to come up with regulation balancing certain areas of data protection. This does not sit well with international companies that have a hard time complying with local privacy laws and get even more frustrated with GDPR.
