When surveyed at the end of January 2022, only seven percent of Canadians believed that Ukraine should not be allowed to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). By contrast, while the majority of Canadians support Ukraine's integration into NATO, this position varies a little depending on which party respondents voted for in the 2021 federal election. Indeed, the most receptive to this idea are those who voted for Justin Trudeau's party (75 percent), and the most opposed are those who supported other parties and abstainers.
The fact that the Russia-Ukraine war could lead to a major conflict between Russia and western allies is of concern to many Canadians.
