In the 2024 parliamentary election in Iceland, the Social Democratic Alliance received the highest share of votes, increasing their share by over 10 percentage points from the 2021 election. They will now seek a coalition government with other parties. On the other side, the Left-Green Movement which held the prime minister Katrin Jakobsdottir for most of the previous legislature period, suffered a catastrophic election and lost all of its seats in the Icelandic parliament.
