In the November 2025 presidential election in Honduras, President Trump-backed conservative Nasry Asfura from the National Party narrowly defeated the center-right candidate, Salvador Nasralla, with 40.27 percent of the vote, compared with 39.53 percent for Asfura. Nasralla is an ex-ally of leftist former president Xiomara Castro, whose party finished a distant third, at only 19.19 percent of the vote.
The 2025 presidential race was marked by vote count delays, fraud allegations from Nasralla's camp, and manual recounts of ballots. The razor-thin margin reflected deep polarization.Â
