The victory of the CDU/CSU with 28.52 percent of the votes grants them a total of 208 seats in Parliament, quite far from the 316 needed to achieve an absolute majority, which forces the black party to form coalitions in order to govern. Considering that the leader of the Christian Democrats and future chancellor Friedrich Merz has ruled out an alliance with Alternative for Germany (AfD), the options are reduced to two, with a grand coalition (GroKo) between CDU/CSU and SPD emerging as the most plausible.
