According to a survey of 10 countries in 2024, over a third of older adults in the UK reported receiving help from family, friends, or their community for everyday activities such as feeding themselves or using the bathroom or toilet. Comparatively, only around one in ten older adults surveyed in New Zealand received help from non-professionals for activities of daily living (ADLs).
