A survey in 2023 found that almost all older U.S. adults aged over 50 years thought it was important (including very and slightly important) to have access to hospice or palliative care in the future. This was once the terms were explained to the respondents, as many were unfamiliar with these end-of-life health terms.
Palliative care focuses on treating the pain, symptoms and stress of individuals with a serious illness, rather than curative care. Hospice care includes palliative care and aims to provide comfort and quality of life for someone who is terminally ill (less than 6-months life expectancy), attending to their (and their family's) emotional and spiritual needs.
