In 2024, the majority of citizens in Albania, Montenegro, Georgia, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina stated that being a member of the European Union would be a good thing. On the contrary, 30 percent of Serbians believed EU membership to be a bad thing, the largest share among candidate countries. Also, more than 30 percent of Serbians and Turks believed that joining the EU would be neither good nor bad. Ukraine also obtained candidate status in 2022.
