From 2019 to 2024 the level of support for further countries joining the European Union rose from ** percent in 2019 to ** percent in 2024, with a high point of ** percent in favor in quarter one of 2022. The sudden increase in the share of respondents in favor of the expansion of the EU in 2022 is likely due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February of that year, to which the EU responded by granting Ukraine candidacy status.Â
