In 2024, the majority of citizens in all candidate countries stated that being a member of the European Union would be beneficial to their country, except for Serbia. In fact, 46 percent of Serbians judged EU membership negatively, the largest share among candidate countries. On the contrary, more than 90 percent of Albanians believed that joining the EU would be beneficial. Ukraine also obtained candidate status in 2022.
