Israel’s trade relations with Turkey have deteriorated sharply since 2024. In May that year, Ankara imposed a trade embargo on the country in response to the war in Gaza. Since then, Turkish imports have plummeted by around ** percent. Concurrently, Israeli exports to Turkey have all but disappeared, reduced to just ** U.S. dollars in May 2026. The Turkish trade action came amid growing calls for a boycott of Israel and was compounded by broader shifts in the global trade regime.

Trade rebound after initial wartime disruptions

The disruption in Turkey-Israel trade has played out amid wider turbulence in Israel’s economy. In the immediate aftermath of Hamas’s surprise attack on southern Israel in October 2023, international trade with the country slumped. Yet within a year of the event, exports of goods and services from Israel surpassed pre-war levels. As did imports to the country.

Tariffs pose a new challenge

As trade with Turkey falters, Israel has continued to trade with other partners as usual. The United States has remained the country’s leading export market. Between July 2023 to June 2025, Israel sustained a healthy trade surplus with the U.S. However, the enactment of American tariffs in August 2025 suggests that Israel’s trade woes are not yet over.
