The tobacco control scale allocates points to each policy, with a maximum score of 100: price (30 points), smoke free public places (22 points), spending on public information campaigns (10 points), comprehensive advertising bans (13 points), large health warnings (10 points),cessation support (treatment) (10 points), combatting illicit trade (3 points) and tobacco industry interference (2 points). Countries which have not ratified the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control will lose one point.
In 2021, France scored ** points out of a possible 100 on the tobacco control scale. This score was aided by the country's strong policies on bans on advertising and the presence of large health warnings. France performed strongly on the index compared to other European countries.
