The tobacco control scale allocates points to each policy, with a maximum score of 100: price (30 points), smoke free public places (22 points), spending on public information campaigns (10 points), comprehensive advertising bans (13 points), large health warnings (10 points),cessation support (treatment) (10 points), combatting illicit trade (3 points) and tobacco industry interference (2 points). Countries which have not ratified the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control will lose one point.
In 2021, Italy scored ** points on the tobacco control scale out of a possible 100. The country scored poorly on the price of tobacco, but fairly high on smoking bans in public places and bans on advertising.
