According to a survey on the status of truck drivers in India, majority of the truck drivers stated that they rarely drove under the influence of drugs or alcohol as of February 2020. Drugs and alcohol were consumed by over ** percent of drivers from the city of Kolkata always while driving. Intake of drugs or alcohol was stated as a coping mechanism by drivers to stay awake on long trips across the south Asian country.
