In 2021, a survey was conducted where fleet operators ranked the reason they considered as top one or two for the truck driver shortage in Europe. The difficulty to attract young people to the profession and lack of skilled drivers recieved higher rankings from respondents, with ** and ** percent of fleet operators placing them in their top two respectively. Young drivers under 25 years old made up around seven percent of truck drivers in Europe in 2021.
