In 2021, a survey was conducted where fleet operators ranked the reason they considered as top one or two for the truck driver shortage in Mexico. The lack of skilled drivers was a particular issue for respondents in the country, with ** percent of the surveyed fleet operators ranking it as the first or second leading reason for the shortage. In contrast, only a quarter of participants reported difficulties to attract young people to the profession as a core reason for the shortage. In 2021. around 19 percent of trucker drivers in the country were under 25 years old.
