The most popular opinion among Russians about their country's role in the U.S.-Iran conflict of January 2020 was that Russia could encourage both sides to reach a compromise, as per 35 percent of respondents. The conflict escalated in the beginning of January 2020 after the U.S-led drone strike killed an Iranian major general Qasem Soleimani. Approximately one third of survey participants who knew or heard about the tension believed that Russia should not get involved in it.
