Iran snap presidential election 2024 - statistics & facts
Snap elections were held end of June 2024 in Iran to replace the former president Seyyed Ebrahimi Raisi who passed away in May during a helicopter crash together with Iran鈥檚 then foreign minister and other public officials. Raisi, who was considered a political hardliner was succeeded by Masoud Pezeshkian, a centralist. Amongst Iranians there are some speculation regarding the causes of the helicopter crash, over half of surveyed Iranians suspect a power struggle as the cause of their death.
