*The source counts the answers of the survey conducted in December 2024 as figures for fiscal year 2024. The Japanese fiscal year starts on April 1 of the stated year and ends on March 31 of the following year. Figures for years prior to fiscal year 2024 are based on earlier surveys, each with a sample size of 1,500 respondents aged 13 to 69 years old. From fiscal year 2024 onward, the number of respondents increased from 1,500 to 1,800 because of the inclusion of an additional age group (people aged 70 to 79 years old).
Data prior to fiscal year 2024 come from previous reporting.
The microblogging service X, which was formerly known as Twitter, was used by **** percent of people in Japan in fiscal year 2024. The penetration rate slightly decreased compared to the previous year due to the inclusion of an additional age group in the survey. As a breakdown by age group shows, X was used by a *** of people aged 13 to 39 years old, while older age groups used it to a lower degree. The service was acquired by Elon Musk in October 2022 and rebranded from Twitter to X in July 2023.
