The source adds the following information: Data for Germany and the Netherlands were collected independently by the Deutsche Bundesbank and De Nederlandsche Bank / Dutch Payments Association respectively, using questionnaires largely harmonised with the ECB's. For the remaining 18 euro area countries, data were collected by Ipsos using a combination of computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) and computer-assisted web interviews (CAWI), each accounting for approximately 50 percent of interviews.

Citation formats

According to a 2024 survey, the most widely cited perceived advantage of card payments among euro area consumers was not having to carry large amounts of cash, selected by ** percent of respondents - by far the most dominant response. Speed ranked second at ** percent, followed by ease of use at ** percent. Safety was cited by ** percent of respondents, while ** percent considered cards useful for budgeting purposes. Wider acceptance was cited by ** percent of respondents. Very few respondents indicated no perceived advantages of cards or cited other advantages, both at * percent, while only * percent reported not using or having access to a card.
